Sabres Looking For Arena Improvements

Sabres Looking For Arena Improvements

KeyBank Center opened 1996, then known as Marine Midland Arena, and was one of 18 NHL arenas built in the 90's. Most of these arenas are starting to, if not already completed, major renovations.

The Sabres' arena has yet to see a complete overhaul and still has the same seats from opening night. They are worn, dirty, and breaking down. The original scoreboard (which itself was replaced by a duplicate after the original fell to the ice) was replaced in 2007 with the current board. At 11 years old, the main video screens now rank 24th in the NHL

At this time there is no timeline for upgrades. The owners are working on plans and financing so we should find out more details in the months to come. I would not expect to see any renovations beginning until the Summer of 2019.
