Arena Upgrades Watch - Summer 2019

We are keeping an eye out on a handful of arena renovations and upgrades over the summer. Next season we will see several new things.

Honda Center – The Anaheim Ducks are slowly replacing their seats. Last off-season they replaced their retractable seating and, according to some season ticket holders, they plan to upgrade the rest of the seats over the next 1-2 off-seasons. The new seats will be black.

TD Garden – The Bruins are already in the middle of a multi-year renovation of their 90’s facility. This coming off season will see more work done to the concourses and private spaces, plus the addition of a new video scoreboard. They will also be replacing all of the nearly 20,000 seats with, you guessed it, black seats.

PNC Arena – The Hurricanes added a new ice projection system last summer, but were unable to replace their scoreboard which is the second smallest in the league. This summer they will be replacing it with a new state-of-the-art scoreboard. We do not have many details yet, but they claim that it will stretch from blue line to blue line.

United Center – The Chicago Blackhawks are finally ready to replace their old scoreboard which still uses an old-school analogue style scoring system. This news was released through an email to season ticket holders. They are still in the planning stages for the scoreboard, and no official design has been chosen at the moment, but they did say that the new board would be ready to go for training camp for the 2019-2020 season.

Bridgestone Arena – Smashville has been hard at work upgrading everything inside their arena. Last season included new boards and glass with LED lights in the stanchions and new LED ribbons. This summer they will be replacing their now ironically nicknamed scoreboard “Megatron” with what will undoubtable be one of the most impressive scoreboards in the league. Nashville has spared little expense with their recent improvements and this one will probably be no different.

Enterprise Center – The home of the Blues will be even less Blue next season as the last of the blue/purple seats are replaced with black ones. The rest of the renovations will also be completed.

Wells Fargo Center – The Flyers too are in the middle of a multi-year renovation and they soon will have a fully re-seated bowl with a new color. Can you guess what color? Why yes, it will be black, like every other arena seems to be doing. However, fans will probably not be looking at the seat color for long once the brand new scoreboard starts to transform before your own eyes. The team is going to have the first scoreboard that can double its own size.

Capital One Arena – The defending Stanley Cup Champions will soon have a new video centerpiece as they replace their current scoreboard with a brand new state-of-the-art scoreboard. The new board will be quiet unique in that the bottom of the scoreboard can slide up into the main video screens when not needed, and the bottom of the scoreboard itself is one giant LED screen that can show gameplay or graphics which no other board in the league is currently capable of.
